At the same time, a careful and systematic study of the clinical effects of the ketogenic diet in specific epilepsy syndromes with particular causes might provide useful clues regarding mechanisms of action (36). It is typical to see a transient hypoglycemia during the first few days, which does not require any treatment unless the child demonstrates symptoms. Treatment of asymptomatic hypoglycemia delays the metabolic adaptation of the child to the state of chronic ketosis.
